One of the worst hotels I've been to in my entire life is called Steig, located few kilometers from the village of Vik and the famous black beach. For 180$, the same price paid at the four stars IcelandAir hotel in Vik, you get to experience a tiny little room, a pathetic breakfast and no service.
A kilometer away from the highway, on a sand road, arrive to a guesthouse called Steag. A receptionist shows you by finger to your room down at the long building which is the guesthouse. I asked for a king size bed and received two tiny little beds put one next to the other with twenty centimeters of space in between. Dinner? No food and no drinks can be bought here... had to drive all the way to the village for some water. After a very hot night -since no heater can be turned of- I woke up to breakfast.
Breakfast is pathetic. Bread, cheese, ham, some ham, vegetables cut last night, rotten fruits and some cereals. Nothing g else, no eggs from the kitchen and a welcome note reminding you not to take food with you outside of the room. Butter boxes open from last week, milk written in the local language and not translated to English...
Pathetic, more of dramatic, a guesthouse with no soul, a place with no life, extremely expensive, left with no maintenance and a clear lack of attention.
Let's recap:
- A very small bed.
- A overheated room.
- No shampoo and no amenities.
- Extremely expensive.
- A pathetic breakfast; Stingy with a lack of choices.
- They don't have a restaurant and no dinner is served.
Not good! Not a place I will come back to or would recommend to any of my friends visiting Iceland.
