The Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is set in Edinburgh's historic and beautiful old town. Conveniently located in the city center, this Edinburgh hotel boasts views of the Crags and Arthur's Seat.

In close proximity at couple of minutes of walking to key locations like the Scottish Parliament, Dynamic Earth and Palace of Holyrood House, the hotel is an ideal base for exploring historic Edinburgh. The Holyrood features 156 suite bedrooms, yes suite bedrooms as they are very spacious, amazingly decorated in an old English style, a luxurious spa, a Steak and Grill restaurant and a stylish piano lounge. It was our first time in Edinburgh, we went there for a conference and wanted to discover the real story of Whisky's and Brave Heart. I can say that the hotel is luxurious. We had the normal room that looks like a suite: A large bed, a living space, a wide dressing area and a spacious bathroom. During our stay the TVs were still not changed: So it was the normal big bulky old television unit used before the year 2000.

The breakfast was fair, starting a typical English day. If you are visiting Edinburgh, and Edinburgh only, you do not need more than two days since it's small and can be visited in 48 hours. Edinburgh hosts fabulous attractions, from iconic Edinburgh Castle to the National Museum of Scotland, great theaters offering excellent shows to the activity sport centers and outdoor attractions. We had to stay for four long days which was too much as it was a bit boring since everybody sleeps very early and no restaurants were open after 10pm. So we had to watch a movie in the hotel. What I remember the most out of Edinburgh is the whisky tasting course and the Whisky Museum; More than 3500 different bottles shown in The Diageo Claive Vidiz Collection.
