I liked the name and the menu choices, which made me want to wake up early and visit them. The Doughnut Plant has the world's first crème brûlée doughnut as well as the first square doughnut which were created here in New York.
Dimmed lights, metal structures, white walls and people shouting orders, the Doughnut Plant is the complete opposite of Dunkin' or Crispy Kreme doughnuts which tackle those fried round rolls from a young and colorful approach. The shop is classy and neat with doughnut pillows decorating the left sided wall, a long bar occupying the right side with dozens of doughnut trays just arriving from the kitchen, back at the end is a large screen displaying the shop's application and menu.
The doughnuts available: Yeast, filled square, dough seed and cake, along with the cake doughnut of the day.
I was not sure what to expect but the line tells you you're going to eat something unique. We waited, ten minutes... I would have waited more than an hour.
This morning, I have met the best doughnut life has ever given me, I have met rolls of dough tender like the mouth can't even fathom, ingredients tasty like the mind can't imagine... Today's experience makes me want to come back to New York!
Let's eat:
- A square doughnut covered with sugar... A large doughnut, big in size, heavy in weight but very light on the palate. An airy dough with a heart of juice, moist and flowing with light jam. No sweetness, no chewiness, just pure pleasure.
- Cashew and orange blossom dough seed: Extremely light and tender dough topped with crunchy cashews with a heart of cold, juicy orange blossom cream. My reaction was, "Oh God!" That's a doughnut I've never ever had!
- The valrhona cake, I'm not sure this can be man made, up scaling the simple doughnut into a masterpiece, an explosion of happiness and the simplest of pleasures... An indescribable, light and fluffy dough topped with one of the world's best chocolates, a dark after note, a smooth dough, lightness and enjoyment. I'm in love...
- Triple chocolate they call it... I'd say triple orgasm! A large doughnut, tender like a pillow, airy like magic, lightly chewy like a Gummy Bear, embraced in three layers of melting chocolate that tastes even better than Nutella or any other spread I've had to date. A layer of firm chocolate with another of flowing wonder around a pure white tender doughnut fried to perfection.
Amazing, really amazing, kind of breathtaking, an experience no one should miss, a true encounter with the best doughnuts I've had to date, pieces of magic, God's creations, heaven in every bite...
That's what I call a dream come true.
