Arriving at a closed gate, the receptionist answered: “Good morning sir, welcome to Villa Cordevigo”. I drove the alley between high trees, left my car at the parking, and walked to the entrance. The sound of gravel moving under my feet, the music of birds tickling my ears, the colorful walls satisfying my eyes and enchanting vibes caressing my body... I felt transported into another dimension. I’m spending two nights at Relais & Chateaux, Villa Cordevigo, a wine estate in Cavaion near Verona.
Spending a week in the northern part of Italy, I stopped the first night in Cavaion located at reasonable distances between Padova, Verona, and Venice.
Villa Cordevigo is an ancient patrician residence going back to the 18th Century, in a unique country setting.
It has all the charm of the Veneto villas, the subtle balance between geometrical lines and rotundity, the perfect blend of the architecture of palaces and the architecture of landscape, all enclosed in this estate lying in a little place called Cordevigo, once an ancient Roman settlement.
The original nucleus is of the Renaissance period, but then in the 17th and 18th Centuries, it was transformed according to the styles in fashion at those times. Laterally to the main house are two lower wings forming a square design with a large court and a beautiful fountain and small Italianate garden. The complex also includes a beautiful Renaissance patrician chapel dedicated to St Martin, a vast park and a genuinely immense vineyard.
We were greeted to a welcome drink, enjoyed the park before being escorted to the room. The junior suite at Villa Cordevigo has a living space with its minibar and coffee machine as well as a big double sized bed in the sleeping quarters. Equipped with luxury amenities, a high ceiling, and flat screen, the apartment filled my need for the next forty-eight hours.
Before sharing with you my sleeping experience and breakfast I can’t but stop at the fact that the team at Villa Cordevigo are very professional. I was angry at not having the air conditioning unit working that’s because the whole hotel didn’t move to the summer system: the person in charge worked so hard to activate the air condition for us to be happy. Thank you for that, thank you for changing our room and for the attention you have given us.
Breakfast is served at the hotel’s main restaurant every morning as of eight thirty. Presented in design chinaware and showcased in the center of the room, breakfast with a smooth jazz background is exactly what you need to start your day in style. Food tastes different, and I really can’t explain it. Ham, cheese, quality of bread, eggs Benedict, and fruits all have a certain finesse and class to them.
I loved the bread so much with its moist heart. I adored the cheese quality and taste. The eggs Benedict are different from any I’ve ever experienced with their skinny muffin, intensely acidic hollandaise and a perfectly poached egg: that’s Michelin Star quality.
What’s great is that the same staff serving you at the Michelin restaurant makes sure to treat you like a king in the next morning. Ham, salmon, locally sourced butter and Italian cheeses among many other choices that made my morning for the second day in a row. Delicious food I’m happy to start my day with.
Yesterday’s night dinner was memorable! One star Michelin deserved - not worth a second anytime soon though-. I enjoyed the journey that starts with some amuses-bouches, a welcome dish that takes you on a tour around Italy; specialties revisited in style.
Wait until you’ve tasted the caviar omelet: it’s like no omelet I’ve ever tasted before. Egg yolk omelet, juicy inside out, intensely yellow color and topped with a fine quantity of black caviar. You will taste the richness of eggs and intensity of the sea in a bite of luxury and style. Breakfast couldn’t be more upscale and luxurious! Super duper tasty eggs that deserve an award.
A slight incident with the air conditioning unit, fixed in minutes. Excellent dinner experience. Sumptuous breakfast. Relaxing sleep... Relais Cordevigo has it all. Spend two days of relaxation, spa and culinary discoveries in the center between Verona and Sirmione.
