A bizarre country, or maybe an area, where everything opens at 10am. They claim to serve breakfast, but don't open before 10. Searching more extensively we found a place, on the road to the Dalwhinnie Distillery.

A couple of hundred meters before you reach the Dalwhinnie Distillery in the heart of a small village is a cafe and guest house next to the road alongside a railway station. Snack Shack feels American, it reminded me of those diners on the American highways.

A creaking door, calm, and inside is a rectangular space all covered with wood. Five wooden tables face a counter and a fridge. The menu is listed on red posters around the restaurant and tables are covered with red placemats as well. Red and wood are the main colors.

Behind the bar is a coffee machine and a display of different teas. Indeed, you're in the middle of nowhere, but the food is nice.

Huge portions for a tasty and fulfilling breakfast. The bread is thick and full, the bacon is rich in taste, the eggs are well cooked and the scrambled eggs have a beautiful color.

  • The cheese and bacon sandwich is made of a large, square piece of bread, two layers of it, thick and fluffy, filled with layers of grilled bacon and melted cheddar cheese. A fluffy bread with Schwery bacon inside and intense, rich cheddar. The combined flavors are great. Not too light, but enjoyable. We're on holiday anyway.
  • The scrambled eggs on toast was exceptional. The same square bread is toasted on one side, buttered on the other and served with an egg and cheese scrambled wonder in the middle. The crunch puts a smile on your face while you enjoy the juicy eggs and rich bread. Unexpectedly tasty.
  • The best of this morning was the big breakfast plate. A large plate filled with 2 pieces of bacon, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, black pudding, beans and toast. What's supposed to be for a single person can be enjoyed by 4. All of this for only £6.50. Oily and fatty, the real British way. Toast with butter, excellent bacon, sweet beans, pudding and potatoes. That's good.

I'm not sure you'll pass by here anytime soon but if you do, know that the distillery opens at 10am, so come up earlier to enjoy a calm, authentic breakfast.
