Share The Meal: The World’s First App Against Global Hunger

ShareTheMeal is an initiative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger. Each year, WFP reaches 80 million people with food assistance in around 80 countries. WFP is 100% voluntarily funded, so every donation counts. WFP’s administrative costs are among the lowest in the non-profit sector – with 90% of donations going directly to WFP operations that are building a world with zero hunger.

There are 795 million undernourished people in the world today. That means one in nine people do not get enough food to lead an active and healthy life. In fact, hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. The good news is that hunger is entirely solvable. And it costs just US$ 0.50 to feed one child for a day.

Impact

Together we are helping to provide much-needed food assistance to Syrian refugee children as well as vulnerable children in host communities in Lebanon.

The Syrian conflict has entered its seventh year; more than 11 million people have been displaced. Neighbouring Lebanon now hosts more than 1 million Syrian refugees, over 90% of whom are food-insecure. The added burden of the refugee population has increased the pressure on vulnerable Lebanese communities. This is particularly true for the villages in the Bekaa Valley, the region with the highest concentration of Syrian refugees. Together with the World Food Programme, you can help ensure that both Syrian refugee children and vulnerable Lebanese children receive the right nutrition, allowing them to reach their full mental and physical potential. You can help ensure 1,100 children have food for one full year.

ShareTheMeal is a smartphone app that enables users to "share their meal" with hungry children – with just a tap. We are an initiative of the World Food Programme, a humanitarian agency of the United Nations.
