Nothing can be more special than visiting Roaster Diner on the last day the Black Burger is being offered? September 30th is "The Black Burger" promotion's last day.
I have written about the Black Burger before, long before Roadster discovered it. Back in September of 2014, exactly one year ago, I had mentioned the Black Burger created by Burger King Japan. It was made from squid ink.
Today is a special occasion because I'm visiting Roadster Byblos for the first time and trying the Black Burger at the same time. I was so excited hoping that I would like it.
Roadster Byblos occupies a space at Jbeil's entrance. Two floors decorated with Roadster's latest architecture and interior. I like it. It’s something they have commenced with their Bliss branch. Clean, modern and neat with a touch of colors that is suitable for all age groups. I think the one in Zalka is a bit immature compared to the new set up.
Brown bricks decorate the walls, while orange and black paint cover the ceiling… Together Forever, the famous slogan, lights up the left side… Camel leather sofas, metallic stripes imprinted with stars, lanterns pending from the ceiling, the place can't but amaze you... And that’s only the lower floor.
I ordered the Black Burger and a Super Sampler – the Super Sampler is a must and has become a tradition with all meals at Roadster.
The Black Burger comes in a square wooden plate, where the burger is placed nicely along with their new rounded fried potatoes and coleslaw. At first, looking at the burger you’re taken back by its color – black, dark brown…?
But wait... It’s too early to judge.
- Bread that's only different in color, light and not spongy.
- A filling that's juicy and lightly sweet.
- Crunchy tomatoes and pickles.
- Melted cheddar cheese.
- Lettuce at the bottom adds a touch of greenery.
Same taste, different color.
The meat was fine, the same one Roadster always uses and people enjoy. It's not exceptional, in my opinion, but it is just right for a diner. It has a grilling flavor to it and that's something I enjoy. I liked the taste of steak sauce, shredded onions and pickles. It’s flavorful and I'm happy I tried it before it’s discontinuation. Good service, a Diet Pepsi, the super sampler filled with crispy and non oily items, sauces, fries and a salad...
At Roadster, it always starts with a super sampler and ends with a marble mud pie... what a ritual!
The experience at the Jbeil branch was good on all fronts and the burger enjoyable. Now I can say that I'm convinced #whygoblack.
