Paper Moon: A Recommended Trattoria in Milan

Two years ago, I discovered a restaurant; an Italian restaurant in the heart of Milano. A unique restaurant serving exceptional food made with love and dedication. A restaurant filled with guests, loaded with an accustomed clientele coming here regularly. Today, two years after, I visit again to love that memorable experience I still didn’t forget. Arriving at 02:30 pm, the restaurant was packed! I had to wait fifteen minutes to be seated.

Divided into four seating areas, Paper Moon has two rooms on the lower level and two rooms on the upper one. I remember the spaghetti bottarga and asparagus risotto followed by the homemade tiramisu.

The restaurant: small and tight with a low ceiling. Decorated with photos of stars and painted in white, the decor is simple like any Italian trattoria. Small-sized glass bottles, stainless bread baskets, wood parquet floor and two bars one on each floor.

The ritual: lunch starts with a plate of focaccia drizzled with olive oil and a basket of bread. Fresh and hot focaccia made minutes earlier.

Risotto the way it always was, creamy and mixed with green peas and fresh green asparagus. Rich, fresh, perfectly balanced and tasty. It has a certain enjoyable creaminess to it, an end-note of salt, a light crunch and a pleasant watery feel.

A very thin pizza with crunchy borders. Not like the usual thick and fluffy pizzas, this one looks more like a village “Lebanese Manouche” topped with tomato sauce and toasted in the sides. Using premium quality tomatoes and topped with spicy sausages, the pizza made my day. I was excited to eat pasta!

Oh My Goodness! Best of the best, like no spaghetti bottarga I’ve ever had. Best ever, a thousand times better than the ones I eat in Lebanon or beyond. Spaghetti cooked al dente the way it should be, mixed with a lot of olive oil, intensely acidic, a load of bottarga, salt and much love! It’s exceptional! It’s amazing! It’s breathtaking!!!!! Bravo!
