Discovering Normandie and the city of Deauville we booked three nights at an iconic Hotel called "Les Manoirs de Tourgéville". Located nearby the famous Deauville boardwalk, (known as “Les Planches”) and the romantic Honfleur harbor, the hotel "Les Manoirs de Tourgéville" welcomes you in a lush greenery setting at the heart of the Normandy countryside. This 4-star hotel comprises a half-timbered main mansion and four smaller lovely manors filled with bucolic charm.
This charming hotel has 57 rooms, including 35 suites, all decorated with Toiles de Mayenne, Manuel Canovas and Pierre Frey, cultivating a deliciously warm and intimate atmosphere.
Les Manoirs de Tourgéville has a restaurant, the 1899, inspired by Normandy dishes, reinterpreted in a modern spirit by the Chef Emmanuel Andrieu.
For some relaxation, the hotel has a heated indoor pool, a fitness center, a sauna, an endermologie treatment center and two superb relaxation cabins ensuring a cocooning effect.
We arrived after sunset to a place lost in the woods. Spread on hundreds of hectares, the hotel is located in the heart of a forest surrounded by thousands of trees and wide plains of grass. You're welcomed by the sounds of wild animals and the fresh smell of burning wood.
Arrive at the reception grab your key and walk to the room. A lovely decor, warm lights, colorful sofas and a chimney facing the bar. Their gastronomical restaurant closed on Monday so we booked for the next evening. Wood, white stones, a cozy atmosphere, a low ceiling made of wood, photos of horses decorate the walls, sofas of different shapes and a soft music... this is the hotel of choice to relax and enjoy a week of calm and serenity.
Our room: Located on the garden level of the main building of the hotel, the 30m² room offers a private terrace with park access. Bright and elegantly decorated, this is the ideal setting to recharge your batteries. A king size bed, a Samsung white television, complementary Internet, a large bathroom and another toilet room. I loved its light blue color and cozy decor which reminded me of a cottage house up in the mountains.
Before dinner we walked to the lounge for drinks. Choose from a selection of cocktails and mocktails, cocktails with gourmet bites, tea time martini, champagnes and spirituals. I ordered the Wasabi martini served with langoustines (vodka, wasabi, green lemon jus, Monin gomme syrup) and the 1899, their famous cocktail includes calvados, apple liquor and champagne. Vermicelli wrapped langoustine served with their green sauce, a blend of a crunchy fried vermicelli and a heart soft like butter. Their yummy!
Tonight we're having dinner at the lounge... read the detailed review.
The room looks smaller than 30sqm, warm lights, French and Italian channels available on the television but an ambiance that hot and can't be cooled up. A relaxing bed, a wide bathroom, a strong water pressure... I walk up at 05:30am ready to enjoy breakfast and discover the region.
PS: If only the manager can be asked not to walk in front of the rooms with her high heals at 7am. It's annoying and will wake you up.
Breakfast is served in the 1899 restaurant which is on the other side of the lobby. I expected more finesse, lights, better looking plates and more choices. Corn flakes on one side, cheese and fried fruits in the other, an island of fruits and cheese that actually need a fridge, eggs and bacon on the hot plates table, honey and jams from the region, crepes and pancakes with a table of fresh bread. Specialities from the area, fine honey, maple syrup, crunchy bread, good croissant... For a four stars, it's good.
Things that need fixing:
- Too many flies; get a blue light to irradiate them.
- Uniforms are a must simply to know who works here and who doesn't
- Rooms are tight, hot and have no air conditioning What do they do during summer?
- Forbid the use of high heels by the staff!
- Focus on breakfast presentation breakfast
- Service needs serious attention!
Service:
- At breakfast, plates are not changed and tables are not cleaned until guests leave.
- Waitresses need to tie their hair.
- Reception staff know nothing about the area, its restaurants and tourist sites. I am not asking for a concierge by at least some cultural know how of what's around.
The good:
- A cozy hotel suitable for families as well as for people looking for a relaxing retreat.
- A beautiful and soothing decor.
- Amenities are enough to fill your time.
- The hotel, nestled amidst awesome sceneries, it is still near main cities.
We enjoyed our stay despite the little imperfections. This is an hotel I'll recommend to my friends.
