I love cigars, their taste, their aromas and flavors. This is a passion I enjoy a lot and like to share with some of my close friends. Trying the main cigar lounges around the city has been a pleasure for me for the past couple of years. I have tried the Metropolitan Hotel's 16th floor, went up to the 31st of the Habtoor's Hilton Grand Hotel, the Movenpick's Hemingway and even Le Gray's cigar lounge... this has become a monthly routine I look forward to: Coupling a nice wine with a good cigar.
My favorite is the Cigar Lounge located at hotel Le Gray in Downtown Beirut. Take the lift, press on the sixth floor and here you are, welcomed into a cozy lounge for cigar smokers and alcohol drinkers alike. Choose from a large selection of malts or ask for the Indigo restaurant wine list and indulge into a night of wonders. Our choice for today was Chateau Puy La Rose, Pauillac, 2006.
The plus: - A very cozy place with inside and outside seating, wooden flooring, leather relaxing sofas, a diversified fully loaded humidor and a complete library of books from all kinds for all tastes. - A small terrace that is well organized giving a mountain feel. - Welcoming and gentle waiters trained with the standards of The Leading Hotels Of The World organisation. - Nuts, cucumbers and carrots are offered. - Very nice cigar ashtrays and cigar colored matches make the experience even better. - The little white fabric napkin to use between every other wine sip and not some normal tissue one.
I always spend magical moments at the lounge with an experience I like to repeat often.
To be taken into consideration:
That night only one waiter was assigned to the whole place. She was inside, cleaning the bottles while forgetting about the guests and our presence. She was present only until the bottle of wine was poured and finished. She then disappeared. I had to search for her every where to pay the bill. It is very important to have someone come stand next to the table every five minutes waiting for a new request. We only drank wine, but if she had asked what we wanted to eat, the answer would have definitely be positive. At the Cigar Lounge you can order from the Indigo menu and enjoy a nice meal while sipping a nice wine bottle puffing a Latino cigar.
