La Boulangerie is a French concept in San Francisco. It is a place inspired by the old French bakeries where wood is used all over, where art pieces are no other than pictures of food, where an open kitchen and counter welcomes you with a large selection of pre-prepared sandwiches or a-la-minute choices.
Occupying the corner street, you’ll see a blue facade where the word Boulangerie is written and many windows that will give you a peek into the vibes inside.
A wooden floor, wood tables and chairs, wood covering half the walls, ventilators and the menu printed on the wall up front. The display fridges have everything from croissants to sandwiches and fresh juices. I wanted to try the hot sandwiches.
- The roast beef is tasty, real juicy roast beef with cheese and mayonnaise but the upper bread is too chewy and too thick. Removing it made the sandwich more pleasant to eat.
- The club is excellent! How they managed to lightly toast three layers of bread while keeping them tender. Turkey rolled not laid one on another, tomatoes, avocado, crispy bacon, lettuce and mayonnaise. Excellent indeed.
- The Rubens is awesome! Served hot, two toasted pain de campagne stuffed with thick layers of cured pastrami meat, sauerkraut and Dijon. Lovely, really lovely, the juiciness and richness of this sandwich, the crunchy sauerkraut and the tenderness of the smoked meat combined with the extra mile of taste the Dijon provides.
The good: Fulfilling, tasty and beautiful plates. All sandwiches are served with fresh greens. The place is inspiring.
The only minus: Seriously, no electrical plugs around the restaurant? We're in 2016!
