Four stars standard in the heart of old Bologna, I spent the night at this authentic hotel build in 1890. Leave your luggage at the reception, and the doorman 'll accompany you to the hotel’s private parking located more than three hundred meters away. Even though the weather was cold and it was raining, having a place to leave your car is not easy in this city.

The historic Hotel Corona D’Oro, located in the heart of Bologna, is a true and genuine preferential window to the “two towers,” one of the symbols of the city only a few steps away.  There are 40 rooms, all delicately decorated in a classic style and characterized by an elegant and enchanting atmosphere, the result of a recent restoration.  One of the hotel’s characteristics is represented by the sophistication of its ambiance and its incomparable calmness that one can experience in every room.

The place is calm and straightforward, a bit old without high expectations. Meet the welcoming staff at the reception, a doorman to take your luggage up the room, check-in and enjoy your stay. The best part of this stay is the internet connection, the fastest I’ve experienced in Italy to date, an 8mb/second upload I never dreamt of experiencing.

A big bathroom, a lovely room, an enjoyable night sleep while I dreamt of the morning’s breakfast. Not bad but not great, a wide choice that’s not enough, served in a room located underground. Why would someone have breakfast underground when the hotel has a beautiful lobby under a glass ceiling where lights of the day give you a feel of happiness.

The good:

  • The receptionist recommended a good restaurant.
  • I asked for super glue which was sent to my room on the spot.
  • It’s a calm place to relax.

For 250€ inclusive breakfast, I expected a bit better, a more attentive service, more and tastiest choices for breakfast, a more significant bed cover and complimentary water bottles for the night.
