Breakfast at Hotel Claridge, Paris

Two days of hell at The Rochester lead us to the Claridge hotel, located in the heart of Amaris, just few meters away from the Champs Élysées. Nestled in one of Paris famous streets, rue Francois Premier, I was intrigued to discover this hotel especially after I was intrigued by the reception area and to be honest my wife and I were ready to accept anything, as nothing could be worse that what we have already experienced in last two days.

We took a long walk with two big bags looking for hotels until we reached Hotel Claridge. We were welcomed by a nice gentleman who walked us through the cozy establishment that will be our home for the next three days. In few minutes, all was explained, ready and set. I was asked to take a small walk while our room gets prepared. With a smile on my face and a sense of security we went for lunch and came back after an hour or so.

I already enjoyed this hotel so much that I decided to write my review the minute I entered the room. Laying on the bed, watching a local channel in HD and contemplating this impressive crystal chandelier pending over the bed, I started to look around for the details.

The room, a deluxe one, is 25sqm and hosts a large king size bed, a small welcoming square where there are cupboards and a seating area. I loved the old furniture and the doors covered with shiny fabrics. The bathroom is one of the things that will make me come back here for sure - Two sinks and one large bathtub with a shower and a shower handle.

In the room, other than the view on the busy street, the high ceiling will relax your senses.

The best detail worth mentioning:
  • I've been to dozens of hotels in Paris, and this is the first time we are offered a complementary bottle of water. It never happens in a four star hotel in a capital where tap water is drinkable. Here, a glass one is offered and I loved the gesture.
Now comes the important part, where you really discover if a hotel is good or not: sleeping. We arrived to our room at 10pm hoping to enjoy a good night's sleep when we started hearing people screaming, shouting and partying. Our room, the 12b has a locked door separating it from room 12. A thin separation that passes all vibrations and sounds. After calling the reception, they were asked to tone it down. So, now you know, make sure not to stay in one of those communicating rooms.

As for the bed, it is also hard. Not as hard as the one at the Rochester but hard enough to disturb a good night's sleep. The first night was not one of the best. I woke up the next day at 6am from a neck pain especially that the pillows were too thin.

On the third day, on an early cold morning, we went down for a coffee in the lobby. Relaxing and soothing; a square lobby covered with rugged carpets covered with fourteen sofas, each from a different color and style. An old feel setup the old époque way: Paintings, posters, clocks and chandeliers.

Hotel Claridge is located in Paris’s 8th district, just 300 metres from the famous Champs-Élysées. It provides 4-star accommodation and free Wi-Fi. Hotel Claridge rooms are decorated with period furniture, traditional woodwork, and bedspreads and fabric wall covering that match the curtains. Each air-conditioned room is equipped with a flat-screen TV and private bathroom. Some rooms have a balcony. Claridge Paris has implemented a number of measures to reduce its impact on the environment including use of low-energy light bulbs, bathroom amenities in recyclable packaging and water flow reducers. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast in the breakfast room and a continental breakfast can be delivered to your room at an extra cost. Claridge’s bar serves a variety of drinks and snack room service is also available. Guests have access to many restaurants near the hotel. Hotel Claridge Paris is a 5-minute walk from the Franklin D. Roosevelt Metro (lines 1 and 9) and the Seine River.

My recommendation:
  • Make sure not to stay in one of the communicating rooms
  • Ask for new thick pillows: Oups! They don't have any
The pluses:
  • The hotel location is awesome
  • The deluxe rooms and their 25sqm are perfect for a few days enjoying the capital
  • The bathroom's water pressure is enjoyable

The minuses:
  • Room service is slow. We had to wait until late afternoon for the room to be done.
Breakfast, on another hand, priced at 19€ is a nice way to start your day. Seated on the sidewalk and enjoying Paris waking up, we enjoyed tasty eggs, fresh croissants and some good cheese.

Taking all into consideration, Le Claridge is a hotel I'll come back to.
