I bet you're be asking yourselves, "what took him to this place?" after reading the title...Well, I remember the hype behind Pizza Hut years ago, before the country became saturated with restaurants and new concepts. I used to look forward going there with a bunch of my friends, especially on the weekend. The fad slowed down... for one reason or another, but it's definitely not because the quality of food has lessened. On the contrary... I like their pizza... I may not be fond of the place itself, but their pizza is something to consider...
Sometimes you just crave the typical American style pizza. Pizza Hut, Domino's or Papa John's are just few remaining places that offer them. Accompanied by three of my friends, I decided to pay Pizza Hut a visit. I went to the branch in the area where I live, Mazraat Yachouh, which has been here for decades. This restaurant was the first to open in the area that has become a busy business hub today.
Is Pizza Hut still good? The answer is yes.
Unfortunately, the restaurant feels like a haunted place but eating a Pizza in-house is much better than having it delivered home. Today's experience was really good and felt close to the ones I have had in the US.
The place described:
- Dimmed and dark, the place feels like a haunted house
- Dark tiles cover the floor
- Dark wooden chairs with dark blue leather cushions are supposed to decorate the place
- Colorful but dull tables have different squares on (light red, purple, green)
- Glass separators between tables give more privacy to the groups
- A light music plays in the background
- Columns are covered in wood and walls are painted in yellow and pink
- A long bench on the right side of the restaurant follows the wall
- Glass facades offer a view on the main road
- An open kitchen that's supposed to be fresh looks dark and scary
- Blue and white ceiling
- A dimmed and disturbing ambiance
Before going in to the tasting adventure, let me assure you that all pizzas served at Pizza Hut are rich and generously filled with premium ingredients. Before deciding to write this review, I ordered pizza from them over five times lately, and every time it was good and tasty.
Let us try the different Pizza Hut crusts:
- Thin'n' Crispy: The original crust baked to a thin, crispy crunch since 1958
This pizza is the one you'll feel the ingredients the most. If you want to feel the pepperoni or the vegetables, order this dough. Thin and light, this crust is close to that served in Italian restaurants around town. This is the only pizza served on a wooden serving pan
- Pan: Pan baked to golden perfection. Soft on the inside, crispy on the out, incredibly delicious
This is my second favorite crust and a great Pizza. The Pan is cooked in the oven in a metallic plate covered in oil. The dough absorbs the oil giving the bottom a crunchy feel but unfortunately an oily finish. The dough on another hand is fluffy and airy, light and enjoyable. A thin slight crunch felt on the sides and at the bottom with an inner filling that is so light that you'll feel each and everyone of the ingredients covering the pizza. I loved the Pan pizza.
- Stuffed crust: A ring of soft melted cheese is baked into the crust of this delicious pizza base
The stuffed crust is one of Pizza Hut's best. Thin in its middle and filled with cheese on the sides, you will eat it as is with love. I loved the golden finish of the sides filled with rich cheese. There is not crunchiness around here. Remember that 4,000L.L are added to this pizza
- Traditional (Italian crust): Traditional style pizza crust hand stretched to create the perfect, not too thick and not too thin crust
This pizza was our least favorite and far from being an Italian classic. What is called Traditional should be an American traditional. Too thick and too chewy, I felt like I was eating a French baguette flattened on the table. 70% bread and 30% filling, the dough spoils the original taste of the pizza. Rich and generously filled, I would definitely order a different crust to enjoy my pizza better.
The plus: All pizzas are served on plastic serving plates filled with balls making the pizza float in the air keeping it fresh.
I didn't enjoy the place at all even though the waitress was smiling and welcoming but I loved the pizzas. I really missed eating something that fresh, that hot and that generous. If you forgot about Pizza Hut, you might want to consider it again.
