This time I'm searching for Paris' best crepe and a specific one appeared on Google with a high rating. Crepe Dentelle in the heart of the second district has a wide selection of brown and normal crepes (sarrazin and froment). They expect you to drink cider with your crepe.

A small place with positive vibes, the shop has a chimney and walls decorated with stones. A dozen tables fill in the space where the regular clientele seems to know what they want.

A welcoming waiter and the owners themselves take care of the restaurant. We ordered two savory crepes and left some space to try their signature sweet ones: The Complete (eggs, cheese and ham) and the Finlandaise (salmon, spinach, cream, lemon).

  • The salmon crepe was a great choice: Filled with a fine quality salmon, cooked spinach and cream, the crepe leaves a pleasant lemon after note in the mouth. Very rich and flavorful this crepe is an enjoyable meal but the crepe dough itself is so thin that you won't even feel it. A bizarre kind of crepe, one can't deny that it's good despite the fact that the dough could have been thicker.
  • Eggs, ham and cheese, the simple one is made with an egg that's left as is inside the crepe and explodes while you cut your bites. Good ingredients, a good taste, but again I would have preferred to feel the dough a bit more. A thicker ham and more cheese would be good and I'd like to have known where the egg was, because the taste does change.

My comments:

  • The plates are smaller than the crepe itself, making the presentation not too appetizing.
  • The crepes are too thin.

Now for dessert:

  • Chocolate, bananas and whipped cream. The same very thin chewy dough lacking crispness and body is filled with a chocolate that's full, dopey bananas and lots of unpleasant cream. Deceiving, especially when you feel the chewy crepe and all those heavy ingredients inside with no real flavor to satisfy.

Honestly the place is a bit overrated. I have had dozens of better crepes in Paris. Not bad, but surely not great.
