It's my coup de Coeur when it comes to coffee shops. Been there, done that and still love it as if it was my first visit. Cafe Coutume is your journey around coffee, a shop that's specialized in coffee beans from places we've never heard of. Cafe Coutume is the place where happiness lives.
Inside this special cafe, things are clear and clean. A fridge display with no prices and no banners, a bar made of white ceramic, light wooden tables and an experiment corner where a large dining table hosts many guests at a time.
It's about every single detail; the unconventional lighting, the rugged walls, the coffee bar, the baristas, the service, the welcoming, the smiles and the vibes. This coffee shop is enchanting.
On the menu: Fifteen choices of coffee, three kinds of breakfast starters and five mains. We had the cereal bar and the pancakes.
- Cafe Coutume's special of the day is the cold brew coffee served in a glass cup with an orange ice cube. The idea of putting iced orange in a cup is unique along with their signature coffee that's more acidic and more intense that your average cup.
- The latte! Strong and acidic, milk smoothes it out without transforming it into a heavy mix. It's a fine dining kind of latte I fell in love with.
- A cereal bar: Juicy and rich, a bit sweet but who cares, it's good.
- And now for the pancakes. Two pancakes set one on top of the other on a round plate are stuffed with chocolate chips, slices of caramelized bananas and decorated with ricotta cream. The maple syrup adds just the right amount of sweetness while transforming this mix into something chewy and enjoyable. It's a kind of upscale pancake you don't eat every day, a bite containing a dozen flavors at once and guaranteed to activate all your taste buds. I loved the last crunch of those pecan nuts.
I love this place. It's a coffee stopover everyone should try in Paris.
