As I arrived in front of this corner restaurant memories started popping up. I know this place, I know these fluorescent benches...then I saw the table I sat on the last time ... Yes I have been here before and I remember loving it!
Bubby's as I remember it had the best ribs and awesome carrot cake. A real upscale American diner, beautiful decor and wood in a casual homey place decorated with paintings and iconic American stories.
I loved the quality of the wooden tables, the long bench built around the place, the action, the mood and the music. Enter where the bar is and move to the dining space located in the left room.
On the menu is a selection of eggs and pancakes, the real American deal, biscuits and toasts, eggs Benedict and Market Omelette.
I remember enjoying lunch so much the last time... but unfortunately this time round, I was disappointed by the breakfast experience! Scrambled eggs are good enough but there was nothing exceptional about them. The pain-de-campagne though was exceptionally moist and soft. As for the slices of bacon they could have been crunchier, and while the potatoes were good, they lacked magic and life.
Pancakes at Bubby's are the biggest disappointment of my morning's breakfast; especially after enjoying so many other pancakes around town the last couple days.
Three very thick pancakes, chewy and not fluffy topped with caramelized bananas and walnuts. They make your mouth water to look at them... until you have your first bite.
The cheese grits bowl is dreadful. It is actually bitter with a bizarre texture; do not order it!
This is what you should order:
- The cheesecake was awesome! Really really good... Served cold, a thick chunk of light and airy cheese over a bed of crunchy biscuit. It was decorated with strawberry and blueberry marmalade. It was really really good! The combination of textures and flavor, the richness, the perfect level of sweetness, the flavor. I'd come here again for this magical creation alone - which was a hit on Instagram.
The place itself is amazing especially on a Sunday morning. The service is excellent and will put you in a good mood... food looks good but tastes average. I believe having lunch at Bubbly's is a way better experience than breakfast.
