Southgate Bar & Restaurant, located at New York's Marriott Essex hotel, offers a variety of unique, delicious flavors in an upscale yet inviting atmosphere. When all of New York knows about this place, you expect to enjoy a different kind of breakfast and that was just what happened.
Located on the ground floor of the hotek is Southgate, a cafe bar and restaurant that welcomes you all day. Breakfast is served before noon offering a selection of different choices including the buffet, eggs and specialities.
The buffet has a classy feel to it. Six bowls of red fruits, different selection of fresh exotic fruits, cold cuts, hot specialities, croissants and Danish parties with a bread and bagel station. It's not the widest or choices after all but he way their served, the fresh look they have and the generosity of portions will leave you impressed.
On the menu you'll find eggs Benedict for sure, fruits and vegetables, indulge items, cereals, specialities and beverages.
The cafe is interesting. With large glass facades and high ceiling, it offers a view onto Central Park. Refined golden and reflective setup, wood, glass, metal and lights, it is a relaxing place for breakfast. I loved the leather chairs, the way the plates are set with cutlery on top, high bar stools, rugged wooden tables, walls of square mirrors and the thousands of bottles. The buffet occupies another room.
The eggs Benedict, officially the best I've ever had to date. Let me tell you how it works. When I like something I don't even think... I just start moaning uncontrollably, my tongue turns around my mouth, I feel things happening around my taste buds and here I say; oh WOW! I have another bite and here I confirm that I've had something memorable and phenomenal. Thin and extremely tender English muffins, poached eggs that are big in size with a flowing heart, premium quality smoked Canadian bacon tender like you can't imagine and the hollandaise: the chef deserves an applause. A thick zesty hollandaise like it should be. I reconfirm it is the best eggs Benedict I've had to date. Unbelievable! Speechless! A phenomenal eggs Benedict. The plate is served with asparagus, a tomato and diced potatoes.
The granola parfait is perfect as well. Lightly sweet, lightly acidic yogurt with red fruits and some granola mix served in a glass cup.
I've found my favorite Eggs Benedict in New York... Recommended!
