Staying one night at the Renaissance, I couldn't but try breakfast so I'd have a complete idea about the hotel. Exactly like the impression I had when I first walked in - a five star with some lack of finesse, breakfast reinforced my first impression.

I passed by the reception and nobody even said good morning, that was the ultimate negative point here, the staff doesn't connect with guests... I'm sure Mr. Marriott wouldn't approve that.

On the ground floor, breakfast is served every morning starting at 07:30am. The Makassar lounge with its wooden floor, indirect lights, warm ambiance and black chairs has a modern feel that's relaxing, while soothing music plays in the background.

Yellow lanterns hang from the ceiling, white placemats decorate the tables, square or rectangular tables fill the space, while two bars display the food.

Fine tuning is a must here and surely some professionalism. Plates are left as they are, they should be in their original place, all parallel one next to the other. Some of them are empty, others a bit dirty and the most flagrant thing are the plates that diners have used to eat, which are not cleaned as they should be, but have reflective grease that's unacceptable in a five star.

The second great impression (being sarcastic) is when the staff decided to remove all the curtains and prepare for lunch while we were having breakfast: How unprofessional can you be? At least apologize to us customers.

The first buffet included a selection of cereals, milk and freshly cut fruits, yogurt and juices alongside nuts and dried fruits.

The other main buffet offered a choice of many hot plates of eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, rice and noodles next to cheeses, salmon, halibut, mackerel and cold cuts. All was good, tasty and fresh, except for the display.

The menu selection:

  • Omelets
  • Eggs
  • Yogurt, cereals and fruit salad
  • Pancakes
  • Crêpe
  • Brioche
  • Eggs Benedict
  • White omelets

I had almost all the cheeses, the salmon, which I loved, the cereal topped with fruit in a bowl, bread and croissants with Bonne Maman jam.

On the bread display, other than the baguettes, you can find a selection of croissants, Danish pastries and muffins, but the best is the large brioche, fluffy and airy, which I enjoyed. The chocolate muffin is exquisite with a chocolate chip topping and set on a tray without paper.

Overall, the food is good, but the lack of professionalism made me reconsider coming back.
