The Beaugrenelle shopping complex... I love it here... different from Printemps, Le Bon Marche or Lafayette, Beaugrenelle is a shopping mall built in an artistic and fresh way. Light comes in from all sides making colorful reflections and enhancing the artfully designed walls. It’s wide and vast, relaxing and pleasant to shop in and spend some time with your family and friends. Beaugrenelle is spread across two buildings - one for shopping and the other for restaurants and food. Unfortunately however the food choices are not up to this complex’s overall standard.

I’ve been to Noura and Chipotle both for the fast food and the quick eatery on the ground floor. I also tried the Italian and left disappointed. Let’s see what Bermuda Onion has to offer.

One of the few restaurants at Beaugrenelle, located on the highest floor of section A comes Bermuda Onion. A bizarre name to say the least, it offers a limited list of items including five starters, nine plates and five desserts. Arriving at 2pm, we were informed that we can only choose from some salads and a burger for the kids, a reduced menu because the kitchen had stopped cooking.

Green and blue sofas, wooden tables, a bar and some chandeliers to decorate the space, the eatery feels like a casual Asian bar. The waiter tells me that Bermuda Onion is the name of a famous restaurant open in Paris more then thirty years ago.

But the food is good... Smoked salmon wrapped around a poached egg all together served very cold as if they were prepared earlier and stored in the fridge on a toasted fluffy muffin and a bed of ripe avocado. A hint of lemon, some spring onions to decorate it, a shiny and tender salmon is enjoyably fatty with an egg poached to perfection occupying its heart. A bit less salt would have made this plate memorable. Buddha bowl d’été is the salad; wakame, quinoa, mango, edamame, cucumbers, avocado, beans and salmon slices. A loaded salad more of a complete meal with a side mustard sauce. I recommend you try it.

While we waited for the main plates, the staff were cleaning the restaurant shouting and creating very unpleasant noises with the tables and cutlery. Our cutlery was not changed, left on the table like they do it in cheap eateries. A bit more attention to service would have been good!

Duck magret covered with sauce and served with potato slices on the side is a great choice for lunch. My kids had the burger which they and I loved. A tender bun covered with sesame hosting a premium juicy patty. Tender meat, real meat with no additives, very flavorful potatoes and a tasty sauce. The potatoes are addictive! A load of fries comes with the burger. Good job chef; it’s not fine dining, more bistro food but surely better than all the others below. I enjoyed coming in despite the name which is not too inviting in my opinion.

Good food... but everything else needs work! I liked our waiter though, a professional man keeping a wide smile on his face at all times. Overall Beaugrenelle needs a serious upgrade in its choice of restaurants.
