A Coming Together... The Revival of Downtown Beirut

Following the great success of our first Souk El Akel, we're going to be hosting one every Thursday in Downtown. Come, enjoy some great food, discover new cuisines, but most of all, just have fun.

Visiting Souk El Akel, last week, a two-day event, which celebrated the best food in Lebanon, was a great joy…and I have to tell you about it.

Souk el Akel celebration

Souk el Akel is, unsurprisingly, all about the food. NoGarlicNoOnions created this wonderful event, bringing culinary delights to Beirut's Downtown.

We were blown away by the number of people who came to see the delectable bites our partners had created. It gave me such a thrill to see so many people coming for a love of food and to celebrate our great cuisine together.

Over 8,000 people flooded into Downtown over the two days, young, old, couples and families, it was a true representation of our country. The energy was fantastic, the atmosphere buzzing, I've still got goose bumps!

It gives me great hope for the future to see so many people from so many different backgrounds all enjoying themselves, eating, laughing and talking amid some great food.

We aimed to have a really diverse collection of food and I think we succeeded in that, all sorts of dishes were available, from all over the world and we introduced some innovations like the Lebanese Burger, a Sushi Burrito and more. 8,000 people! 8,000 people eating our selections, tasting our food, laughing and joking with us! The marketplace we created was packed, absolutely full of people. I've been smiling ever since.

On the first day we had a crowd of over 3,000 people, it was incredible. An amazing experience, a food heaven, fun, love, unity, youth, the elderly, families, from all walks of life, I've never seen anything like it.

I don't have the words to truly describe how I feel. I'm so proud, of my friends who worked with me to put this all together, of the food, but most of all, I'm proud of the people of this great country.

Thank you. Looking forward to more… See you this Thursday and every Thursday.
